Wandle Park
So this Mummy turned 40 this July 2020 the year of the pandemic and we did have a Big party booked but obviously with all the current situations we had to move the date to later in the year.
We wanted to do something on the day to celebrate as 40 is a pretty special birthday to go unnoticed!
I have two Children 6yr and just turned 3yr as she too is a July birthday So day out was more themed with them in mind but I did have a great day.
Play parks had just been given the go ahead to open again and Wandle Park we knew where it was but had never ventured to it before, so after being home with only a daily walk in the woods for many months we thought it would be a treat to go to a “new to us” play park.
So we started the day at Enchanted village golf but this was our 1st time visiting that day and kids were OVERLY excited as 1st time out and somewhere new in weeks with being in Lockdown since March.
Outside the golf is a bus stop where we caught a bus straight into central Croydon where we picked up a McDonalds take away and caught the tram 1 stop to Wandle Park, as the tram stop is right outside the gate to the park, so extremely easy access to get to and find on Public transport.
We picnicked with our McDs before letting the kids go off and play on the equipment, lots of hand sanitiser was used this day.
Where we were sat for our picnic you could see a big slide that does go very fast, some really cool tire swings and more than just the standard set of two so more children can swing at 1 time. Also what I would call some high and low ropes to play on, think a mini go ape.
We then headed round the corner and behind a big hill and came across a sandpit which is where my two spent most of their time at the park. Directly opposite that is a kiosk to get drinks and ice creams and I believe if you ask for a key you can use the toilets. I am not certain but it did look like it may be a cafe with a seating area inside but with all that is going on wasn’t open, so I cannot be 100% sure on that front.
Wandle Park does have a very small car park I think about 12 spaces in total and you can park for 3hrs for FREE!
A path goes all the way around the outer field of the park and we saw a few walkers and runners goes passed us as they did their laps around the park.
There is also a skate/Bike ramp part which has a fence around it. We didn’t go in there but saw a few teenagers doing the tricks and stunts which my boy loved as he says he wants to be a stunt man when he grows up.
The river Wandle does run through the park but it is so overgrown that unless you do know the river ia there it’s hard to find. As already knew of the river Wandle growing up in Mitcham and now living in Croydon and we did see a bridge in the park, But it could be a huge hazard to your Children or yourselves unknowingly ending up in the river.
We also saw lots of benches placed around a beautiful old bandstand which was a lovely feature in the park and made me think just how much history it must have seen and gave us something to talk about and explain to the kiddiewinks.
We then made our way home and finished the day off with “a Chocolate Parteeeee” as my two kept singing. We melted chocolate and had marshmallows and fruit to dip in and Mummy had a chocolate cake and I was sung “ Happy birthday” to by kiddiewinks, hubby and my Mum.
My boy did try to blow out my candles as well lol. All in all I had a wonderful day to remember for my 40th Birthday.
