Vintage styled baby photography at Croydon Studio
We’ve always been a fan of vintage styled baby photography. In fact any type of vintage styling fits rather well into our tone of photography.
One of our most popular props we have in the studio is our little vintage ride on car. To be honest it is a little bit too popular with most of the toddlers. More often than not we end up having to hide it during a photoshoot!
South London Mum wins Competition
I wasn’t surprised this rather lovely image won our latest monthly wall art competition. As vintage styled baby photography goes it checks all the boxes. Vintage car, the right shirt and shirt and of course those braces. The hair styling is rather classic too. It goes to show that if you want vintage styled baby photography you don’t have to go over the top with props.
In fact, in my personal opinion, less is always more. Sometimes if you have too much going on in a picture then the most important part, the baby, gets lost.
The reason I like this photo too much wasn’t so much the styling but the expression on the baby.
Styling, lighting and composition aside, expression always makes a great photo.
The lucky South London mum of this young chap will take home a rather lovely 20×16 inch wall art after it spends couple of weeks hanging on the wall of the Photo Cafe.
Vintage styled baby photography
We often a variety of different types of photo shoots at our Croydon studio from newborn photography to family portraits.
We do have a selection of props, especially for newborn babies, but if you are looking for vintage styled baby photography then here’s a few things to think about.
Vintage styled hair
I know that most babies and toddlers don’t really have too much to work. However, looking at this month’s competition winner you can see that a little bit of styling can make all the difference.
Vintage outfits for babies
When choosing an outfit think more along the lines of classic rather than vintage. Sometimes you can go too far and we end up with a picture that is more caricature that portrait.
However, I think it’s a given that if it’s a boy then you need to add braces and possibly a flat cap.
Vintage props
Vintage styled baby photography props need to be simple. In a way they need to be an anchor point for the baby. Something they can sit or climb on with breaking.
I’m a big fan of a simple wooden box or crate. Less is always more.
Want to win a wall Art for your home?
If you would like to win a lovely wall Art for your home it really couldn’t be easier.
Firstly you need to book a photography session at our Croydon studio. It doesn’t have to be a vintage styled baby photography session.
When you return to the studio to view and order your images this will be the chance to choose an image for our monthly competition.
When the image gets posted to our Facebook Page then it’s time to get sharing!
One lucky winner takes home a wall art worth £299 every single month.
Visit the Photo Cafe Croydon to see the latest Wall Art Winner hanging on our wall.
Our favourite images that didn’t make it
Unfortunately we can have only one winner each month but there were some lovely images chosen this month.
We had a mixture of baby shoots, cake smash sessions and shots from family photography photo shoots.
I’ve picked out two of my favourite
Siblings
I’m a big fan of black and white photography and you can certainly read more about Black and white family portraits on our blog.
I really like how this image looks edited in monochrome and the expressions on both children are priceless.
Shouting
We photographed this little chap when he was a bump in his mummy’s tummy and when he was a newborn baby only a few days old.
It’s great to have families coming back to our Croydon studio, especially when they are full of character like this fella.
During the session I took a variety of lovely images but I love the fact that mum and dad chose this image to share on Facebook.
