Frames for black and white photos
When thinking about frames for black and white photos most of the time clients in our Croydon studio opt for either a simple black or white frame.
The classic choice would certainly be a simple thin black frame with a fine art print mounted in a slightly off white mount.
Visit any gallery showcasing black and white photography and this is almost always the preferred option.
There’s good reason for this, it looks great, plain and simple. The best frames for black and white photos are of course black and white.
However, there are plenty of different ways you can customise and personalise this format. We are in the unique position to be working side by side (literally) with one of the very best specialist photographic fine art printers and framers, for photographers, artists and galleries.
All our wall art printing and framing is done onsite at Croydon House pretty much in the room next door to the studio.
If you ever ask the question “what are the best frames for black and white photos?” then you’ve certainly come to the right place.
This unique relationship means that our clients are spoilt for choice when it comes to creating a truly bespoke frame.
In fact I doubt there is any other photography studio in the UK that could offer a fuller framing service than we do.
This sheer abundance of choice does have its downside…there’s so much to choose from!
It is for that very reason that we have developed our Signature Frame Collection.

Creating our signature Frame Collection
Since moving our studio and base of operations to Croydon in 2017 we have been working closely with our fine art printers and framers to create a signature frame collection for our studio portrait clients.
The task was to perfectly match and harmonise our style of studio photography with quality fine art framing.
One of the genres of photography we are most passionate about is our black and white studio portraits. Creating the perfect frames for black and white photos was something we always wanted to get right.
The assignment we set for ourselves was to create a frame that was classic in style but contemporary in execution. The finished product needed to be of the highest quality and it needed to be one if the very best frames for black and white photos.
Monochromatic wall art collection
Part of our Signature Frame Collection, our Monochromatic wall Art is one of our absolute favourite products that we have in our Croydon showroom.
It’s a simple concept, we match predominantly dark, low key monochrome images with a black mount and black frame combination.
The mounts have a thin white key-line which really set the image off. The frames are wide and have ridges which adds depth and dimension to the final piece.
The opposite is then done with lighter high key images with white backgrounds.

Choose the right image for a monochromatic wall art
During your viewing and ordering session at our Croydon studio we will certainly make suggestions for the best type of frames for black and white photos. Our viewing software allows us to instantly mock up sample of your frame with your chosen images. It also has a rather fancy feature that so show you exactly how your frame will look in your home. This not only helps to order the right size for the space you’ll be putting it in but you can also set how your wall art match’s the colours of your room.
The reason why we love these frames so much is that they match our style of photography. One our a favourite award winning newborn images that won us Newborn Photographer of the Year in 2018 looks absolutely amazing in this style of framing.
Silhouetted maternity and family portraits, photographed on a white background also look fantastic in this style.
By far my favourite type of studio portrait is a simple headshot with an amazing expression. This style of photography finished with a Monochromatic frame just looks stunning.
