Daily creative photography for kids
It’s week five of our series of Creative Photography for Kids ideas.
This week we are really stepping things up a notch. There’s stop motion photography, science experiments, another Barbie fashion shoot and a really fun creative symmetry artwork project.
All of these projects can be shot and edited using a smartphone.
The hope in that each of these ideas will add a little creativity into your child’s day.
You should be able to fit then in between home schooling and working from home. Each week block has 5 different ideas for you to try. You could do all the ideas over a single day or a weekend if you wish. What is important is that it is easy to fit into your daily life.
All of the projects can be done whilst on lockdown and fit into government guidelines.
What age children is this appropriate for?
All of these Creative Photography for kids ideas have been developed and tested with my 5 (and a half) year old daughter during lockdown. If they can understand the basic concepts and have the ability to press the shutter button on your phone’s camera they are old enough. There’s no upper age limit as this program is certainly appropriate for adults.
What equipment do I need to use?
For many of the tasks all you need is a smartphone. Some of the task might require certain apps but we will always try and find cheap or free versions.

Stop Motion Animation
We were inspired to create a stop motion animation project by photographer George Fairbairn.
We got out the Lego and even created some stop motion videos in the garden.
Best of all we did all these animations using a simple and free iPhone app.
More details can be found at Stop motion animation for kids using toys.
Glass Water Distortion
The ultimate goal of these projects is fun but if we can occasionally involve a little bit of science then that’s a bonus.
The best thing about exploring diffraction is that there’s so many creative opportunities to be had.

Barbie Fashion Shoot with custom backgrounds
This is the second of our Barbie Fashion shoots so we upped our game.
In this project we’ve created custom backgrounds for our mini portraits studio. These give your Barbie fashion images their own unique look.

Static Electricity photography
The second of our science experiments this week and it’s a fun one.
You can create some interesting images with a simple ballon if you’d like. We used some plastic garden toys to add a bit of colour.

Creative Symmetry Art
This project just requires a free iPhone app but my daughters found it easier to edit the pictures using an iPad.
Whatever you use it is possible to create some really interesting artwork from any photo.
