Photo scavenger hunt games
We’re continuing our series of photo scavenger hunt games Creative Photography for Kids ideas into a weekly program.
The idea is to add a little creativity into your child’s day that can fit in between home schooling and working from home. Each idea is designed to bring a little light relief to your day and hopefully some fun!
We are going to continue with simple ideas and get progressively more creative as we go along.
Each week block has 5 different ideas for you to try. Technically you could do all the ideas over a single day or a weekend if you wish. What is important is that it is easy to fit into your daily life.
All of the projects can be done whilst on lockdown and fit into government guidelines.
What age children is this appropriate for?
All of these Creative Photography for kids ideas have been developed and tested with my 5 (and a half) year old daughter during lockdown. If they can understand the basic concepts and have the ability to press the shutter button on your phone’s camera they are old enough. There’s no upper age limit as this program is certainly appropriate for adults.
What equipment do I need to use?
For many of the tasks all you need is a smartphone. Some of the task might require certain apps but we will always try and find cheap or free versions.

Shape Game
Starting the week off with a photo scavenger hunt is a great way to begin. It’s a chance for your children to flex their imagination.
The shape game is simple, choose a particular shape like a circle or a square and find and photograph as many objects that are that particular shape.

Shadows
This challenge is best done later in the afternoon when shadows are longer. If there’s no sun then it can be done inside using a lamp or torch.
The aim of this project is a build a stock of images that can be used in future projects.

Silhouettes
Silhouettes are popular Instagram images and easy to create. These images are great for your stock library and an excellent photographic skill to master.
Like shadows silhouettes are easier to create when the sun is low so save this one for sunrise or sunset.
It’s not impossible to do this in the middle of the day.

Objects with holes in
This project focuses on identifying objects that let light through them through holes and gaps. There’s plenty of creative opportunities available here.
To aid the learning find household objects and light them with a torch or lamp.

See through objects
The last creative project this week is a scavenger hunt for objects that are see through. They could be glass or plastic, coloured or clear.
These objects you have around the house could be useful in future projects.
