Biggin Hill Airport Lookout Cafe
As it is mostly just play parks that are open at the moment and the fact our car has been broken since even before lockdown, A Daddy that works nights and two feral Children that need to be taken out at least once a day.
I have been tested with finding hopefully exciting things to keep them both entertained and myself sane lol but also accessible for us to get to.
We had arranged to meet with friends for the children to all have a play and I mentioned the “Lookout cafe” just to try and make a park play day a little different. Our friends had never been so it was nice to introduce them to somewhere so close that is a perfect little day out.
It was actually really easy to get to by bus, just the 464 from central parade New Addington and there is a stop pretty much outside the cafe, just a short walk around to the entrance.
We live in New Addington so “The lookout cafe” isn’t new to us and we have been a few times before but always in the car.
It had become our go to for a close small treat day, as our two like to watch the planes fly over head or see them on the run way.
We haven’t taken them aboard yet so neither of them have ever been on a plane, so just watching them is exciting and we get lunch or a small treat and a drink which they love. Each time we have been we have seen a spitfire and today didn’t disappoint.
As with current situations there is more outside seating than normal but was very busy today, I guess due to being school Holidays and not too many things open.
Biggin Hill Recreation ground
Google maps then helped us find Biggin Hill Recreation ground for a play, it is slightly hidden if you don’t know where you are going like us but down Church Road on the left is where you will find the park, from the main road it’s the turning between the library and pool and A church. We caught the same number bus from the stop we got off at for the cafe and it was a short 3 stops down to find the park.
We found the Aeroplane themed play equipment a nice little touch being in Biggin Hill. The park does need some TLC but kids were happy and loved this Swinging Maypole thingy that was there, we would definitely go back just for that.
The park does have a small car park again free and you would see the car park before you see the play park on entry and a nice big field ideal for picnics with friends. We did see dog walkers so obviously dogs are allowed on the field.
My 3yr old saw the skate bowl from the park and asked if she could go in the water as she thought it was a paddling pool so that was cute and funny trying to explain it was not what she thought.
We no doubt will be doing another visit to the “Lookout cafe” during these school holidays and now I know how easy it is to get to by bus for us it can be a last minute decision on the day. I do highly recommend a visit if you haven’t been before and take your Camera with a good zoom lens to capture the planes in flight, if you have one.
